Japanese Prime Minister says he is confident in hosting the Olympics in 2021
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has announced his firm intention to host the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the summer of 2021, «Reuters» reported.
“I want to assure you that the Olympics will take place next year,” the prime minister said in an interview with Kyodo News, Japan’s largest news agency.
Earlier it became known that Yoshihide Suga held telephone conversations with the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach. They discussed preparations for the Olympics.
The Tokyo Games were scheduled to run from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were postponed for a year and will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021. At the same time, the name of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be retained.
