Extraordinary General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee was held

An extraordinary XXXVII General Assembly was held at the National Olympic Committee. The event was attended by a responsible officer of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Sultonov, representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan Rashid Talipov, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov, First Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ravshan Irmatov, heads of sports federations and associations of Uzbekistan, delegates of the Committee, representatives of the sports sector and the media. The Assembly was chaired by the Secretary General of the NOC of Uzbekistan Oybek Kasymov.

The agenda of the Assembly considered such issues as the preparation and participation of Uzbek athletes in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, the election of a new deputy chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, amendments to the charter of the committee, consideration of the activities of federations and associations in other sports.

On the issue of the preparation and participation of Uzbek athletes at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, Chairman of the NOC of Uzbekistan Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov spoke, noting that despite the quarantine during the pandemic, all the necessary conditions were created for online training so that athletes keep their shape , after the easing of quarantine measures, classes began to be held in the same mode and that the competitions are held in accordance with the calendar of the season. He went on to say that the budget for this year has been fully funded, and that there are no problems with preparations for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 and that all financial issues have been resolved by our government. Further, the head of the NOC mentioned that the main attention will be paid to winning the maximum number of licenses for the upcoming Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020, as well as breeding work, which is already being carried out for the Hangzhou Asian Games-2022 and the Paris-2024 Olympics.

“On the eve of the Third Renaissance of our new Uzbekistan, the Head of State expects that, first of all, we will completely change our methods of work, show enthusiasm and initiative, take responsibility, set an example for others and be generous to athletes. The first points of our work plans together with the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports are the selection and training of coaches, increasing their experience, and practical measures for organizing competitions. Taking this opportunity, I express my gratitude to the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Defense, the National Guard, the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan and sports veterans for their cooperation and support. After, R. Shaabdurakhmanov put forward a proposal on the appointment of a new deputy chairman, which was introduced with the aim of organizing and developing sports events, high-quality preparation of athletes for the upcoming complex competitions. He stressed the need to coordinate the work of sports federations and associations during a pandemic. The delegates unanimously approved the candidacy of the head of the Taekwondo WT Association of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Tashmatov, to the post of Deputy Acting Chairman of the NOC. The participants expressed their opinion about the candidate.

Indeed, Sherzod Rikhsibaevich is well known to the sports community. Especially the time of his tenure as the first deputy chairman of the Boxing Federation of Uzbekistan was very productive. As an experienced sports manager, he made a significant contribution to the boxer’s success at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Sh.Tashmatov in 2009-2010 was Deputy Chairman of the Association of Amateur and Professional Muay Thai of Uzbekistan, and in 2010-2014 Chairman of this association, in 2013-2014 was Deputy Chairman of the Center for the Development of Oriental Martial Arts, in 2014-2019 was First Deputy Chairman of the Boxing Federation of Uzbekistan. From 2016 to 2019, Sherzod Tashmatov was a member of the AIBA Executive Committee, Vice President of the Asian Boxing Confederation. Since 2019, he has been the chairman of the Taekwondo WT Association of Uzbekistan. In addition, Sherzod Rikhsibaevich is the head of the Operational Headquarters at the NOC.

Then the director of the department of legal services of the NOC Mahmud Yarmatov commented on the importance of amending the charter of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan and approving its new edition.

Speaking about the last question, the director of the department of international relations Kamoliddin Ergashev gave information about the appeals of sports federations and associations that are received by the NOC.

During the event, responsible officials of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Cabinet of Ministers Shavkat Sultonov and Rashid Tolipov spoke, who noted that it is necessary to adequately prepare for the upcoming complex competitions, in this direction all conditions have been created by our government and expressed the hope that our athletes will be worthy to defend the honor of the country in the international arena, justifying the trust. Also, once again we congratulated Sherzod Tashmatov on his appointment to a new position and wished him success.

On the issues on the agenda, sports veterans Bakhodir Makhsitov and Erkin Karimov expressed their views and thanked the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Physical Culture of Uzbekistan for their care and support to the older generation. At the end of the Assembly, appropriate decisions were made for implementation. Thus, the extraordinary XXXVII General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee completed its work.
