The IOC wants to vaccinate all athletes participating in the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) are considering the possibility of vaccinating all athletes who are to participate in the Tokyo Olympics against coronavirus, informing the Telegraph.

The IOC intends to speed up the vaccination process for athletes in countries where vaccination of the population has not yet begun. This applies to developing countries, where they want to supply the vaccine in the first place.

However, priority access to athletes’ vaccine, rather than to key and vulnerable populations is a major issue for WHO.

According to British Olympic Association director Andy Anson, the IOC is seriously puzzled by the problem of vaccinating athletes from small countries.

«I think they will continue to work on this in order to make the vaccine as accessible as possible to people arriving to Japan, – noted Anson. – this is important».

The Games, which were postponed due to the coronavirus to this year, are scheduled to take place from 23 July to 8 August.
