Tokyo Olympics men’s rugby sevens day three recap: Fiji win gold again

Fiji defeated New Zealand 27-12 in the gold medal match at Tokyo Stadium to win their second consecutive Olympic Rugby Sevens gold medal.

Argentina, whom Fiji beat in the semifinals 26-14, took their place on the last step of the podium by defeating Great Britain 17-12 in the bronze medal final.

South Africa bounced back from the disappointment of losing to Argentina on the second day of the quarterfinals to take fifth place at Tokyo Stadium.

Australia finished their tournament on a high with a match against Canada, scoring four tries to take a 26-7 victory and seventh place.

In the first match of day three, the tournament’s hosts, Japan, rebounded from a 7-0 and 12-7 loss with their first win in Tokyo 2020 to send the Republic of Korea to 12th place.

Ireland missed out on a spot in the quarterfinals despite beating Kenya 12-7 in the group stage.
