The activities of foreign trainers working in Uzbekistan discussed.
Currently, 22 foreign coaches in 17 sports work in our teams in Olympic sports. Certainly, the introduction and application of world experience is important in preparing for major competitions. With the support of our government, all financial issues related to the salaries of these foreign coaches have already been resolved. So, how effective are their works in Uzbekistan? Have our athletes improved since these coaches arrived? On 4 February, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sport held a meeting on these issues on the topic «Consideration of proposals for concluding employment contracts (agreements) with foreign specialists». It was attended by the leadership of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, headed by Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov, First Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Ravshan Irmatov, heads of sports federations and associations, heads of Republican schools of higher sports excellence.
“If we remember the Olympic Games in Rio, our delegation won 70 licenses. According to the preliminary calculations and the Tokyo Olympics, we’ll get the same number of permits. But our Government is more focused on preparing for Tokyo-2020 than in Rio. Foreign coaches are involved to national teams at the request of federations. But the results are almost the same. Therefore, we must once again critically review our activity», said the chairman of the NOC.
At the beginning of the event, the activities of foreign specialists for two years working in the national teams were examined, and the progress and dynamism of development was noted. Also, the work of some specialists has been critically evaluated. In particular, Boris Zhgiru, who is a member of the Uzbek track and field athletics team, was given some comments and relevant recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the work.
A number of plans were also discussed to prepare our teams for the Asian Hangzhou 2022 Games and the Paris 2024 Olympics. Teams that do not have a foreign expert are offered to hire foreign coaches or consultants as necessary and consider the most suitable candidates for this.
