Joe Schmidt joins the World Rugby team
The New Zealand specialist will head the established rugby and high performance sports department in November. His responsibilities will include match maintenance, player welfare and health, training and education.
“I am looking forward to getting started. I am passionate about the game and really want people to continue to enjoy participating – both those who are young and those who are young at heart. We had a difficult year, and most likely, it will not be easy until the end, but I am already glad that international competitions have resumed,” Joe Schmidt commented on his appointment.
“Joe’s experience is perfectly aligned with our ambition to make the game even more engaging and accessible by providing high standards of wellbeing for athletes,” said Bernard Laporte, Vice President of World Rugby, welcoming the appointment.
