The local federation is moving steadily toward professional rugby.
It all started when Lieutenant Colonel Kulton Prachuampo became the head of Thai rugby. This immediately allowed him to gain the support of the country’s military structures. As a result, the national rugby team got the use of one of the largest stadiums, Tupatemi, with a capacity of 25,000 fans.
At the same time, one of the investors of Thai rugby was James Davis-Yandle. The Welsh businessman is the owner of the Y 11 Sports and Media Company and the Ospreys franchise, who has promised that Thailand’s most talented players can go to the Ospreys for internships.
Apparently, this is just the beginning of the progress of Thai rugby, because according to Prachuampo, in the near future, the local championship will become a professional and each team will get a sponsor.
