On 14–15 May, a two-day seminar for match officials was held in Tashkent as part of the World Rugby Level 2 Match Officials programme.
The training brought together referees from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, giving them an opportunity to update and deepen their knowledge of modern rugby laws, exchange experience, analyse practical match situations and improve their refereeing skills.
The seminar was led by Dilroy Fernando, Match Official Manager at Asia Rugby and one of the leading specialists in referee development and training in Asia. Fernando has more than 20 years of experience in refereeing, coaching and match official performance assessment.
A particularly important achievement for Uzbek rugby was Vladimir Pavlenko’s successful completion of the Level 2 course. Following the training, he received the World Rugby Level 2 Match Official qualification.
As a result, Vladimir Pavlenko became the second representative of Uzbekistan to achieve this level of refereeing qualification.
The first Uzbek to reach this level was Yulia Ignatenko, who previously became the first Uzbek referee to obtain the Level 2 qualification.
Obtaining a second Level 2 qualification is an important step in the development of Uzbekistan’s national refereeing corps. It demonstrates that ongoing efforts to train and develop domestic referees are delivering results.
The development of qualified match officials is one of the key components of rugby’s growth in the country. International seminars of this kind help our specialists meet the modern requirements of Asia Rugby and World Rugby while gaining the experience necessary to work at international competitions.
