Following a 30-minute online Asia Rugby Ad Hoc Council Meeting, the Council the supreme decision-making body representing our 36 Member Unions approved by a vast majority vote of 27 to 1 the Board Resolution to establish an Asia Rugby Branch Office in the United Arab Emirates, while maintaining our legal headquarters in Hong Kong SAR. This resolution was proposed by the UAE and seconded by Malaysia and Lebanon reflecting the collective will of our unions to strengthen the operational future of our organization.
The establishment of a branch office in Dubai concludes six years of discussions and consultations and represents an important step toward enhancing Asia Rugby’s operational efficiency, financial management, and regional accessibility, while keeping the governance framework unchanged.
During the recent Emirates Dubai 7s, this milestone witnessed a constructive engagement between Asia Rugby Executive Committee and World Rugby leadership, including Chair Dr. Brett Robinson and CEO Alan Gilpin, where it was agreed to proceed with a joint strategic roadmap supported by an independent international consultant appointed jointly by World Rugby and Asia Rugby.
