Rugby World magazine traditionally compiles an annual list of the most influential people in the world of rugby, and recently issued a fresh version. According to the magazine, the main person in world rugby is the head of World Rugby, Bernard Laporte.
At first glance, this is an obvious choice, but when you look at it, things were different before. For example, in the 2020 version, Siya Kolisi, the captain of the South African national team, was considered the most influential person in rugby.
As a rationale for their choice, the editors of the magazine said this: “If Laporte supports a controversial idea, be sure that it will soon come true”
In third place on the list is another rugby official – the head of the Six Nations Cup Ben Morel. They also paid tribute to the coaches. So, the coach of the French national team Fabien Galtier was on the 7th line of the list, Eddie John was on the 18th, and Andy Farrell, even after defeating the All Blacks, only got to 25th place.
As for the players, Antoine Dupont became the fourth most important rugby person, and the same Siya Kolisi was awarded 11th place.
